The International Book Fair has been held every year in Cuba for 32 editions, a cultural event that, due to its importance and national magnitude, has become one of the most important in the country.
On this occasion, the book and reading festival will be held from February 15 to 25 in Havana and then in each of the Cuban provinces.
As part of the proposals for readers, next Thursday, February 22, at 2:00 p.m., the book "La dirección orquestal sinfónica. Its expression in Cuba", by Guido López-Gavilán, the result of his research for his Doctor of Science in Arts degree from the University of the Arts (ISA), will be presented at the Lezama Lima Hall of the Fortaleza de la Cabaña.
The possibility of having this volume is due to the joint work between Aurelia Ediciones and the Fondo de Arte Joven (FAJ), a platform for the promotion of emerging art in Cuba, which has among its main supporters the Swiss Cooperation (COSUDE).
Maestro López Gavilán compiles in this book several milestones of symphonic orchestral conducting in Cuba since 1922, when the first symphonic orchestra was founded in the country, until 2022, when the first century of this event was celebrated.
In this way, the outstanding composer and conductor of the Música Eterna Chamber Orchestra offers valuable information on concerts and conductors that was scattered in music dictionaries, essays and musicological reviews during the aforementioned period.
From the material gathered, which includes the fundamentals of this discipline and the knowledge on which he has built his own work, the 2015 National Music Prize winner has prepared a reference material that will undoubtedly become an essential bibliography for the subject of Symphonic Orchestral Conducting in the teaching system of this specialty in Cuba.
With these characteristics, "La dirección orquestal sinfónica. Its expression in Cuba", by maestro Guido López-Gavilán, is a volume that those who aspire to become future orchestra conductors, as well as music lovers and readers in general, will want to approach.
