Alejandro Mendoza Castro (Artemisa, 2000) is a saxophonist who began his studies in 2010 at the Vocational School of Arts in the municipality of Quivican, in his native province. He developed his middle level studies at the National School of Art between 2015 and 2019. He was part of the Joven Jazz Band with maestro Joaquín Betancourt. He has won awards as a soloist in, among other competitions, the JoJazz 2017 Young Jazz Musicians Competition. He also participated in the La esquina del Jazz contest, launched by the radio station CMBF, where he won the First Prize in the Performance category. In his brief career, he has already shared recording sessions with renowned artists such as Bobby Carcassés, Alejandro Falcón, Jorge Reyes or Janio Abreu.
Not having his own quality saxophone affected his creation. The Youth Art Fund (YAF) allowed him to get his hands on a new saxophone that was given to him directly by the outstanding jazzman Yosvani Terry, also a saxophonist and director of the Harvard Jazz Band. After the donation, Alejandro Mendoza was able to participate in the Negro Fest festival in Medellin, Colombia. Support this artist in his growing social media:
