Winner of the Second Visual Arts Call
Elio Jesús Fonseca (Camagüey, 1994) is a young visual artist who graduated from the University of the Arts (ISA) of Cuba in 2019. His work has been exhibited in multiple exhibitions in Latin America and Europe, including the 6th London Art Biennale (United Kingdom, 2023); the 17th Arte Laguna Prize, Venice (Italy, 2023); the Contemporary Art Week, Mexico City (Mexico, 2020); the Arco Fair, Madrid (Spain, 2020); and the 13th Havana Biennial, Havana (Cuba, 2019).

The Youth Art Fund (FAJ) supports the production of works comprising Elio Jesús Fonseca's project "Pensar deja cicatrices" (Thinking Leaves Scars). In this project, he adopts printmaking as the foundation of his creative process, exploring themes of wear, stress, and the challenges of contemporary life performance. He sketches a temporality where memory, uncertainty, and nostalgia highlight the fragility of human nature. Additionally, FAJ provides methodological guidance and support throughout the project.

The modalities of collaboration are flexible, as are the contributions. It is in our interest to establish co-financing agreements with entities that support operationally and/or financially, for example, specific calls for proposals. These specific actions managed by the Fondo de Arte Joven may have awards such as:

  • exhibitions in their respective art centers in Cuba and abroad.
  • donations of musical instruments and working materials for artists
  • national and international art residencies
  • publications
  • academic experiences
  • promotion
  • support for creative processes
