Juan Carlos Poveda (Ciego de Avila, 1998) is a young guitarist, composer and arranger, graduated in Classical Guitar at the National School of Music of Cuba. Su interés por el instrumento lo motivó a tocar también la guitarra eléctrica, y dio sus primeros pasos junto al productor musical y ganador de Grammy, Joaquín Betancourt.

As a member of the Horns to Havana organization he taught classes and participated in concerts in the United States, during 2016 and 2017. In 2017 he received mention in Essentially Ellington Competition, Jazz at Lincoln Center and in 2019 he was multi-awarded in Jazz competitions in Cuba such as the ''La Esquina del Jazz'' improvisation competition for Radio and Television, and the JOJAZZ International Competition for Young Jazzists.

During his musical career, he has collaborated with groups and renowned musicians such as guitarist of the Jazz Band of Maestro Joaquín Betancourt, Giraldo Piloto and Klimax, the Spanish singer Pilar Boyeros, Rafael Paseiro, Emir Santa Cruz, Zule Guerra, among others.

The Fondo de Arte Joven (FAJ) supports the recording of the album “Vivo”, its subsequent mixing and mastering, with the aim of promoting the work of the young musician. Vivo consists of five unpublished works composed by Poveda, and 3 arrangements that have contemporary jazz as a base genre, with influences of pop, funk and R&B.
