Youth Excellence Award - Musical instrument donation
Samuel Abriham Sandoval Rodríguez (Havana, 2001) began his training at the Alejandro García Caturla School, where he discovered the double bass as a child. Graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Arte (ENA) in 2020, this year he will attend the Berklee at Umbria Jazz Clinics summer program. He began playing as a student with the ENA Jazz Band and also in Professor Enrique Lazaga’s La Charanga. In his brief career he has also shared the stage with prestigious artists such as maestros Juan Carlos Marín, Julito Padrón and the outstanding ensemble Interactivo. At the Jazz Plaza 2020 International Festival he performed with German saxophonist, flutist and composer Kim Barth.

The Youth Art Fund (YAF) allowed him to have his first own double bass to support his creative development. After the donation, he participated in the Jazz Plaza 2023 International Festival where he played with the band Rasinmwen from Haiti and in the YAF launch concert.

The modalities of collaboration are flexible, as are the contributions. It is in our interest to establish co-financing agreements with entities that support operationally and/or financially, for example, specific calls for proposals. These specific actions managed by the Fondo de Arte Joven may have awards such as:

  • exhibitions in their respective art centers in Cuba and abroad.
  • donations of musical instruments and working materials for artists
  • national and international art residencies
  • publications
  • academic experiences
  • promotion
  • support for creative processes
