The usual exhibition space of the Fondo de Arte Joven (FAJ), the Galería Salón Blanco, received art critic and curator Gerardo Mosquera for the second time. On this occasion, Mosquera delved into the ins and outs of "Niebla", the solo exhibition of promising visual artist Daniel Antón.
This is not Mosquera's first interaction with the FAJ. In January of this year, the curator witnessed "malaYerba", exhibited at this venue at the time. However, it was Anton's work, recently unveiled in Havana under the auspices of the FAJ, that caught the attention of the critic and researcher on this occasion.
"Niebla" is not only a reflection of Anton's ingenuity; it is also part of the award given to the artist as Grand Prize in the "malaYerba" young art competition, launched by FAJ in 2023.
The first edition of this young art contest was projected from the platform as an initiative focused on supporting the most recent promotions of Cuban visual artists living and working in Cuba.
The title of this contest is a nod to the definition made by the curator in the words of the catalog of "Las metáforas del templo", a group exhibition that has become a milestone in the historiography of contemporary Cuban art.
During this meeting, Mosquera spoke with members of the FAJ, which since January 2023 has redoubled its commitment to promoting and supporting emerging artistic innovation on the island.
