Alejandro (Coqui) Calzadilla (Leningrad, 1988) is a clarinetist, saxophonist, teacher, arranger and composer, graduated from the University of the Arts (ISA) with a Gold Degree in the chair of Maestro Vicente Monterrey (2012).
He is a member of the jazz quartet Lomarriba and the clarinet quintet Palomonte, he is also director of the Duo D'accord and soloist of the artistic catalog of the Centro Nacional de la Música de Concierto. He has participated in several national festivals such as Festival Jazz Plaza, Festival Leo Brouwer de Música de Cámara, Festival Esteban Salas de Música Antigua, among others.
He has collaborated in record productions of several artists such as Alain Pérez, Aymée Nuviola and Aldo López-Gavilán, and has also been involved in the soundtracks of the Cuban films Casa Vieja, Fábula and Contigo Pan y Cebolla.
In 2011 he received First Prize in the Musicalia Chamber Music Competition, and in 2023 he has been the recipient of a residency in New Orleans through the Preservation Hall Foundation.
The Fondo de Arte Joven (FAJ) supports the realization of the recording project Vía D'Escape, the first release of this artist, which will feature ten pieces of his authorship. The album seeks to defend, from an eclectic vision, concert music and jazz, with the clarinet as the protagonist.
