Yasel Muñoz (Holguín, 1996) is a young flutist, composer, arranger and producer. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Flute and Ensemble Practices from the Raúl Gómez García Vocational School of Arts in the city of Holguín, and a Bachelor's degree in Musical Composition from the University of the Arts (ISA) in Havana.
During his formative years, he was the leader of several projects of jazz and Cuban popular music, with whom he offered a large number of concerts, presentations, radio and television programs. In an intermediate stage, he formed a jazz trio with whom he won the composition award in two consecutive years (2013 and 2014) at the JoJazz Festival in Havana, and an award for interpretation. It is also with this format with whom he recorded his first album Los Húmedos Colores del Infinito (2014) with the production house ABDALA.
As a performer and composer Yasel has given concerts at the Havana Jazz Plaza Festival, at the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba, at the Concert Hall of the Museum of Fine Arts, among others. He has also collaborated with artists such as Yasek Manzano, Harold López Nussa, Ernán López Nussa, Alejandro Meroño, La Valdés, X Alfonso, Mike del Ferro, Orlando Maraca Valle, Niurka Gonzáles, Rolando Luna, Ivette Cepeda, Vania Borges, Liuba María Hevia, David Torrens, Real Proyect, Oliver Valdés, among others. As a creator of music for dance, theater and audiovisuals he is very active collaborating with a great variety of creators in those areas.
The Fondo de Arte Joven (FAJ) supports the filming of the audiovisual Yasel Muñoz QUARTET - Live Studio, an album of six songs written by Yasel for a newly formed quartet. The recording will take place at FAJ's Mendieta 23 Studio, and aims to represent the creative process inside the place where almost all music emerges but which sometimes the public has no idea about. As a result, people will be able to access the material in dual format (audiovisual and phonographic).
